Everyone should be able to find out how I work and reach me, however they use the web. This page explains what I've done toward that, what isn't in my control, and how to let me know about a problem.
The Standard
This site is built and checked against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. New pages are checked against it as they're added, not audited once and forgotten.
What's Built In
- Keyboard access. Every link, button, menu and form field works with a keyboard, and the focused item is always visibly outlined. A "Skip to main content" link comes first on every page, and Escape closes the menu.
- Readable contrast. Text and background colors were measured against the WCAG contrast ratios rather than judged by eye.
- Screen reader structure. Each page has one main heading with a logical order beneath it. Photos that carry meaning are described; decorative ones are hidden so they aren't read out as noise. The question lists announce whether each answer is open or closed.
- Labelled forms. Every form field has a real label, so you always hear what's being asked.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, smooth scrolling and animations are switched off.
- Zoom and small screens. Pages reflow when text is enlarged or the browser is zoomed, down to a 320-pixel-wide screen, without sideways scrolling.
What I Don't Control
- The client portal. Schedule Appointment opens a portal run by SimplePractice on its own site, so its accessibility is theirs to maintain. If it gives you any trouble, call 720.588.3577 and I'll set up your appointment by phone.
- Other sites I link to, such as the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line.
Accessible Sessions
Walk and talk sessions use paved, accessible paths, and we move at a pace that feels right for you. Any session can also happen by secure video from wherever you're comfortable. If something about either would make it hard for you to take part, tell me and we'll work it out together.
Tell Me About a Problem
If something on this site gets in your way, I want to know. It helps to hear which page, what you were trying to do, and the device or assistive technology you were using, but please get in touch even if you can't share all of that.
